Self discipline is all about creating goals that you commit to and stay consistent with. This includes whenever you not feeling up to it, you still show up and give it your all. This is something that you work on and does require a lot of sacrifice. However, it’s usually worth it in the end.
Creating goals and breaking them down into steps:
Creating goals are essential in keeping you motivated to complete tasks in all area’s of your life. This normally involves SMART goals which I have spoken in a previous post :Steps to overcoming procrastination. In summary, this involves making a goal that is specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and within a deadline (time bound). This ensures that you create a goal that is possible and within your ability. Once you’ve created your goal you should break them down into smaller manageable tasks. This will help things looks clearer and help motivate you to achieve your goal.
Surround yourself around positive people and environments
Put yourself in an environment that won’t lead to you procrastination. This particularly involves mobile phones and game consoles. This because we are all addicted these days to technology that we forget to do things we should, and to go out and see people we care about. Eliminating these distractions we can work on our goals and see quality people. Another aspect involves the people we hang out with. For example, if we hang out in the wrong crowds, they can demotivate you to create positive changes in your life. Therefore, putting yourself inn the right environment and around good people is vital.
Time management
Most people have very busy lives meaning they have a lot of tasks to complete. However, one way of managing tasks is to put them in priority and deadline order. This means you complete the tasks that are most important and have a short deadline first. This can help reduce stress as the vital tasks are already achieved. Another way is to create a schedule of when your going to do certain tasks and keep yourself accountable. This can help create a strong mindset and help promote resilience when facing challenges.
Self reflection and mindfulness
Self reflection is very important for understanding the negative and the positive things that happen. For example, if you eat too much unhealthy food and you recognise that, you can create steps to change the habit. This can lead to implementation of healthy habits like exercising, rest and having healthy food to maintain good focus and energy. Therefore, small improvements whilst staying dedicated can create a strong sense of self discipline over time. Furthermore, you can recognise your accomplishments and reward yourself for them. It’s vital to celebrate small victories on the way as can improve motivation and remind you of your goals.
In summary, self discipline is a skill that can be improved with patience and perseverance. Self discipline helps you stay focused and motivated towards your goals. This also enables you to overcome setbacks, leading to improved productivity and efficiency in any tasks. Lastly, it helps have a sense of control over actions and decisions leading to personal growth, fulfilment and success.
